Teaching

Michele’s experience and academic background give her insight as an instructor of guitar, piano, bass (electric and acoustic), music theory, vocal coaching, ear training and composition. Her academic studies, including a Master’s degree in Musicology, as well as performance in a variety of genres, have immersed her in the idiosyncracies of diverse styles. The academic monograph of her master’s thesis Middle Eastern Influences on Late Medieval Italian Dances  (published by Edwin Mellon Press) won the Dance Perspective Society’s award for most original book of 2001. She numbers among her former students multi-Grammy award winner Alicia Keys.  She is a long time teacher at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music where she serves as Chair of the Guitar Department, and at her home studio. Lessons are individually tailored to meet the needs of the student and can be conducted in person or remote via the web.
